HAUTE ROUTE 2010
The Haute Route is the most famous ski tour
in the world. Not only is it a great multi day tour through
some of the most spectacular mountains in the world, it is
also a European cultural experience, rich in tradition, which
cannot compare to any ski trip in North America.
This long tradition of traversing these
high mountains and long glaciers of the Western Alps dates
back to the late 1800s. This rugged traverse was done originally
from Argentiere, France to Zermatt, Switzerland. Since then,
many different traverse routes have been accomplished through
the Western Alps, yet the most popular tour still remains
as the classic Haute Route traverse - Argentiere to Zermatt
or Zermatt to Argentiere.
Although the popularity of this trip means we sometimes won't
have all the hills to ourselves, it also means we can enjoy
all the comforts not usually expected in a high alpine traverse
in other mountain ranges. Several full service huts in spectacular
locations offer us the comforts of food and lodging while
remaining in the alpine. Quaint small villages along the route
give us a glimpse into European Alp culture and the sampling
local specialties. Ski lifts provide us lift in a few locations
where a long hike up would be the only other option
Many parties rush across the route, not taking advantage
of the excellent ski peaks and quality descents along the
way. Brian's 10 day tour is designed to savor the high quality
ski mountaineering of the haute route at a low guide - client
ratio (5:1). It is an ultimate combination of famous peak
climbing, endless ski descents, and haute culture
